Our Team
We are heartbroken to share the unexpected passing of our beloved colleague Carol McKee, who passed away on 3rd January 2026 from a heart attack.
For 23 years Carol dedicated herself to looking after the eyecare needs of the Waltham Abbey community with amazing skill and compassion. She touched the lives of countless patients, many of whom continued coming back to the Abbey after moving away to see Carol and receive her care and we will all miss her dearly.
We will keep everyone updated as to our continuity of care plan, but for now we are committed to providing the same standard of excellent care that Carol was known for. Shane & Edward will endeavour to continue Carol’s wonderful legacy.
Dispensing Optician
Edward received his certification as a Dispensing Optician in 2007. Over the years, he has become an expert in the fitting of intricate spectacle lenses as well as the professional adaptation of spectacle frames, ranging from handmade adult frames to specialised children’s frames imported from all over the world.
Outside of the practice setting, he can be seen mountain biking through the forest or whitewater rafting at the Lea Valley White Water Centre, where he enjoys the adrenaline rush of outdoor activities.
BSc(HONS)MCOptom
Erika is an Optometrist at Sun Street opticians, after an already successful career we are very lucky to have her. Erika is currently on maternity leave but is looking forward to getting back to helping our customers – once she has enjoyed many baby cuddles.
Assistant Dispensing Optician
Kat began working in optics as a Saturday girl in 2011, and after determining that this was the career for her, she moved on to work full time in the field. With her BTEC Level 3 and 4 in Optical Dispensing under her belt, Katya is currently pursuing a certificate in fundamental communication abilities in British Sign Language (BSL)
Kat enjoys spending time with her three (yes, three!) Labrador retrievers and cooking up a storm in the kitchen. She unwinds by crocheting and stitching.
Practice Manager
Shane began working with Eileen Gay Opticians in the early 1990s and quickly advanced through the ranks, eventually becoming the practice manager. Shane has been working in the optical industry for the past twenty-four years.
Shane worked in a variety of occupations following college, including tailoring and travel, but he quickly discovered that he was at home in the field of optics.
Rimless and custom frames are their specialities, and they have a diverse range of talents ranging from spectacle production to lens dispensing.
