EYE EXAMINATION

Regular eye exams are essential for maintaining clear vision and overall eye health. Through a simple, comfortable eye health check-up, our knowledgeable and friendly team can detect early signs of eye conditions and update your prescription, ensuring your eyes stay as healthy as possible and your vision sharp.

What to expect in your comprehensive eye exam

Our patients come first and as an independent optician, we are committed to taking our time and offering everyone a personalised experience. Our professional team will explain each part of your eye exam in easy-to-understand terms, helping you to feel confident and at ease throughout.

Your eye exam will take around 40 minutes and involves a series of tests that combined will give our optometrist a clear picture of your eye health.

We have invested in the latest equipment to make your examination as comfortable as possible, such as our iCare intraocular pressure testing machine. This checks for excessively high eye pressure, which is a sign of glaucoma, but doesn’t use the old method of applying a puff of air and consequently, our patients much prefer it.

In addition to intraocular pressure testing, we will carry out other tests including:

  • Pupil reactions check
  • Assessment of the muscle function around your eye
  • Depth perception test
  • Colour vision test
  • Retinoscopy to accurately determine your lens prescription by measuring how light reflects off your retina
  • Ophthalmoscopy to view the back of your eye to check for signs of eye health issues
  • Retinal photography to capture detailed images of the back of your eye to detect early signs of eye conditions

We also recommend an OCT scan, which is a type of advanced digital retinal imaging that will create a highly detailed 3D scan of your retina. These images will be kept on file and compared to future scan results to pick up on any changes in your retinal health.

How often should you have eye exams?

Regular eye exams are important for everyone, even if you think there is nothing wrong with your vision. For most adults aged 16–69, every 2 years is recommended and for anyone under 16 or 70 and over, yearly eye tests are advised. If you have diabetes or glaucoma, you should have your eyes checked every year, or as often as your optometrist suggests.
